Regarding our Pricing:

Regarding our pricing, one major factor affecting our pricing is that our massage therapists are paid as employees, and not as Independent Contractors.

Most massage shops, and some spas, pay their therapists as Independent Contractors. This saves the owner from paying payrol taxes, Unemployment Insurance, Workers Compensation Insurance or Medical Health Insurance.

According to the IRS and the Hawaii State Tax collector, people who work for you at your store by taking care of customers who arrive for service at your store, are employees, not Independent Contractors. However, there is very little enforcement, so most shops can ignore labor law and save a mountain of money by avoiding all those taxes and insurance.

Their staff can still get medical insurance if they hide cash income so their reported income is below the qualifying amount for Medicaid.

Should any of their employees file for unemployment benefits, the state can collect years of unpaid UI tax from the employers.

Due to complying with labor law we have a significantly higher overhead, hence a higher price.

  6. FYI, There is a free Hula show on the stage fronting our shop Monday, Wednsday, and Fridays from 6:15 pm to 7:00 pm. Your massage will be in the sound environment of their beautiful music. However, on the other four days there is a paid Dinner Luau from 5:00 pm to 7:30 pm, and part of their show includes humerous commentary as well as high paced drumming. If you'd prefer a quiet massage, please avoid scheduling during the Dinner Luau.
